Story of Bakhita, kidnapped in Sudan by slave traders, and later bought by the Italian Vice Consul in 1883. She went to Italy with him, and there converted to catholicism, and entered the order of the Canossian sisters where she was considered a saint.

On 17 May 1992, she was declared Blessed and given February 8 as her feast day. On 1 October 2000, she was canonized and became Saint Josephine Bakhita. She is venerated as a modern African saint.
